FAQs

How does therapy work?

To be successful, counseling requires the client to take ownership of their share of the therapeutic process. That’s going to require honestly, personal accountability, patience, and a willingness to be present with ideas that might seem uncomfortable at first.

Psychotherapists work with, not on, our clients. I can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself.

However, change and progress are not guaranteed by simply showing up to session. Real change comes from within, and that often requires putting in the work outside of therapy.

I will collaboratively help you explore and identify each therapeutic goal, but ultimately the client has the final say in how effective treatment will be.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
